Muggle Saunas
I went to the YMCA in Monroe for the first time last night.  After working out, I went into the sauna, which is in the women's locker room. I checked the instructions on the door to make sure nudity was allowed, and it mentioned sitting on a towel if you were "undressed," so that's what I did.

Then a strange thing happened. A young woman joined me. In full sweats. I thought this was odd. By her quick glance at me, I suspected she thought I was odd. But oh well, back to stewing.

Then another young woman walked in. In full sweats. WTF?

I'm wondering if this is normal for this Y or if I just ran into the only two people who go there and think that sweats are normal attire for a sauna.

Sweats in a sauna? What? The sauna isn't doing enough?
Just because it's allowed doesn't mean that there isn't still a ton of body phobia out there.

They were young cute skinny girls too. I agree with ChrisB - body modesty is a social disease...

Of course. Likely equally scared of judgment and all those Monroe lesbians I keep hearing about.

While I agree with their choice of partner, I have other attributes which disqualify me from the club. :-)

Some people think they'll loose weight faster if they wear sweats into the sauna. I think it just makes them more uncomfortable. Then there are the folks who are just freakin afraid of being seen nude. sad.

Wow. That would be an odd experience. I'm with you, clothes just don't do it for me in every context, most certainly not in steam rooms, saunas or spas; it feels weird to get into water wearing clothing.

I remember going home a few years ago and being unable to completely relax in the family hot tub. I finally realized that it was because it was the first time I had soaked in a hot tub while wearing a swim suit in almost a decade.

Often, when i'm at the gym (which says nothing about being nude, but I see people wandering about in the buff often) I will stop in the sauna for about 10 minutes after my workout, still dressed, because it's too much trouble to undress and then regarb to go home for a simple 10 mintues. But, I also don't wear sweats...I wear long, light weight pants and a tank top or t-shirt.

Perhaps they're just freaks. Or maybe I am. Or we all are?

Love you

Odd. You'll almost never see that happen in the UK or Europe.

The USA's body phobia baffles me sometimes. For example, on a UK or European beach you might catch a glimpse of someone going briefly topless as they change. Nobody really cares although it might get some appreciating glances/sniggers depending on the person. On the other hand, we have our own unique breed of phobia about nudity which is more about the person being a distraction and a nuisance, and nothing to do with it being a sin. I mean... this is the country where a popular daily newspaper thinks nothing of showing topless women on page 3!

That said, I know some parts of the USA are less body-phobia than others. Parts of California, for example, I think?
